20 months ago today Nitro was in surgery to remove his right front leg. I can’t believe this much time has passed! Sometimes it seems like yesterday, other times it seems like forever; and sometimes it seems like a bad dream that never happened at all.
The journey continues….we’re still on the roller coaster ride of incontinence; it will go away for days at a time, then it comes back with a vengeance. Although now when it happens, it appears to be “effort-related”; when he gets up from laying on the amp side, or when he sneezes first thing in the morning. Maybe it’s just old age catching up with him (he’s working on 11 years!). Whatever, we are going to give acupuncture a shot – no pun intended – and look forward to his visit next week.

Also, he’s started to be a brat when it comes to eating. This is a dog who never met a meal he didn’t love, now all of a sudden he’s turning his nose up at it – steak included! So I discontinued his herbs (that smell like dirt); yesterday he finally showed some enthusiasm for lunch – he’s back to being a purist, wanting only the kibble and no added things like steak or hotdogs. Always keeps me on my toes, this one!

WOOOHOOOHEEEEEHAAWWWW! Congrats Nitro, you keep us on our toes too with your magical abilities on three legs! I’ll bet you know how to spell “HOPE” in the snow now don’t you? Cause that’s what you are my friend, hope to SO many people who worry that life will not be the same after losing a leg to cancer. Even with your challenges you know how to rock this three-legged thing!

Awe look at that beautiful boy! Nitro you provide so many with hope and inspiration! Happy 20 months you beautiful boy! Paula I’m sooo happy for you! You are such a wonderful person and I will never forget all your kindness to us when we first joined and ongoing. I hope Nitro gets many many more ampuversarys we can all celebrate!

The way you described his “leaking” really does sound like loss of muscle that does, indeed, happen to some humans as they age, or even to some women after having babies. Clearly Nitro’s would be more age related!
I’m glad he’s eating his kibble again. Interesting that he’s not holding out for steak and other goodies. Yep, he keeps you on your toes alright!!

Yay Nitro 20 months. Way to kick butt buddy. Keeping your mom on her toes can be a good thing. I hope the acupuncture works. We will be going today to check it out for Jazz.
Now keep on doing so awesome. We love to hear all the good reports and love love all these pictures. The snuggly ones are some of my favorites
